from kate’s closet: a holiday fashion guide

December 12, 2016  |  published by Maureen FitzGibbon

The chatter around our office last week included only the following statements:

“What are you going to wear to the holiday party?”

“Wait…are you talking about what you’re going to wear to the holiday party?”

Needless to say, the gals [and guy!] at Kate & Company had been searching high and low for a perfect holiday outfit.  Of course a great dress is always an option, but how can you pair styled pieces together to create the perfect festive ensemble? Search no further – we are here to give you all the holiday outfit inspo you could need this winter season!

Midi-Life Crisis

No real crisis here!  Midi-skirts are great staples for holiday party dressing.  This piece can carry style and holds great potential for accessorizing with a statement shoe or a great pair of stockings.  Pair one of these pleated numbers with a delicate camisole, or if you opt for a fuller look, like the tulle skirt here, pair with a simple cropped top.

Maxi-Mize

Going for a more elegant look?  Attending a fancier holiday gathering?  Maxi skirts are a great substitute for a traditional dress.  Opt for a skirt with a straighter silhouette to show your figure or a sexy side slit, if you want show a bit of leg.  If you’re feeling that you want a bit more comfort, choose a satin inspired flow number for a softer feel.  Velvet is all the rage this season, so pick this luxe fabric to elevate your look.

Pencil Me In

If your party is a bit more conservative, we’ve got you covered!  Pencil skirts are a great way to stay work appropriate for the office shindig, but with plenty of room to dress up and make fun.  Choose a jazzier option, like the gold sequin pencil skirt, paired with a silk blouse to create a difference of texture.  Life is all about balance – so is fashion!  Below are some picks for keeping your look classy – business on the bottom, with a party on top!  You can pair these skirts with a greta velvet blazer [did we mention we love velvet?!] or a men’s inspired tuxedo style jacket for an edgier look.

Top That

Don’t just top-off your drink this holiday season – top-off your look!  Mixing patterns and materials can elevate your holiday look, so pair your satin maxi skirt with a chic plaid top, or try a satin camisole with a velvet skirt.  Feeling adventurous [and wanting to channel your inner ballerina?] – try a lace body suite under any holiday inspired skirt.  They’re the perfect compliment to any high-waisted or wrap skirt.

Layer Up

Baby, it’s cold outside!  If you live in a colder city, chic layers are great additions to complete your outfit!  Bulky layers are no fun for anyone, so opt for a lighter weight option that will still keep you warm.

Sole Mates

We aren’t the only ones searching for a soulmate – our outfits are, too!  If you fell in love with one of the midi-length skirts or sexy side slit skirt, a great shoe is a must and sure to stun!  We believe animal prints are a neutral – so, go bold with a print for a real show stopper!

Acc-sass-orize!

Make the final statement with your jewelry.  This is one of the easiest ways to elevate the simplest of outfits or even take an already killer get-up to the next level.  If your outfit already has the ultra-glitz factor wear a dainty statement necklace like the tassel number seen below.  If you feel that your outfit needs a little pizzazz, throw your hair into a great top-knot and add a statement earring or cuff to show sparkle.
